Approved by the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, the 15th National Conference on Experimental Mechanics was held in Huludao City, Liaoning Province from August 6th to 9th, 2018. Academicians Wu Xiaoping, Yang Wei, Hu Haiyan and Yu Qifeng, together with more than 600 experts, professors, and representatives from all over the country gathered in Huludao City to study the latest developments in experimental mechanics and discuss the development plans of experimental mechanics.

    This national Conference on Experimental Mechanics is co-sponsored by The Experimental Mechanics Committee of the Chinese Society of Mechanics and the Mathematical Science Department of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, co-sponsored by Beijing Institute of Technology and Liaoning University of Engineering And Technology, and co-organized by nearly 20 institutions of universities and research institutions. In addition to the main report venue of the conference, 9 sub-venues has been set up. Nearly 50 invited experts and 200 scholars from Tsinghua University, Peking University, Beijing University of science and technology, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Tianjin University and Liaoning University of engineering and technology conducted academic exchanges with their counterparts in 9 fields, including experimental mechanics methods and technology, experimental mechanics and interdisciplinary frontiers, experimental mechanics and national major needs. The national Conference on Experimental Mechanics is held every three years, aiming to promote academic exchanges among experimental mechanics peers, display the latest experimental testing methods, technologies and instruments, promote the intersection and integration of experimental mechanics and other disciplines, and expand the application of experimental mechanics in frontier science, engineering technology and national defense industry.

    Professor Luo Ying, director of the national-level "high-end equipment key structure health management" international joint research center, director of the mechanical industry key laboratory, and provincial key discipline first-level mechanics leader, led 9 members of the experimental mechanics team of our school to attend the meeting, and made an invitation report entitled "nondestructive testing methods for engineering structures based on non-contact ultrasonic sensing technology" All the other members of the team have made relevant sub venue reports.

There was a heated discussion between the teachers and students and the report experts on the current hot issues of ultrasonic non-contact testing. The atmosphere of the whole conference was warm, which left a deep impression on the colleagues in the field of experimental mechanics. The participation in the National Conference on Experimental Mechanics has expanded the influence of our school's mechanics discipline in the country, and played a positive role in promoting the development of our school's mechanics discipline and keeping up with the academic frontiers of international experimental mechanics.
